If you divide it into a triangle and a rectangle, you find that the area is 39 units squared.

Answer:

Area of the given polygon is 39.

Explanation:

To know the area of the polygon in the given picture is = Area of rectangle MVERD - (area of a triangle VPM + area of a triangle MQR)

Now area of the triangle VPM = (1/2) × Base × height = (1/2)×3×1 = 1.5

area of the triangle MQR = (1/2) × Base × height = (1/2)×3×5 = 15/2 = 7.5

Area of PEDQ = length × width = 8 × 6 = 48

Therefore total area of polygon MVEDR = 48 - (1.5 + 7.5) = 39
