A chemical reaction is supposed to produce 1.44 g of product X. When the reaction is carried out, only 1.31 g of product X are formed. What is the percent error in the yield of the reaction?

To find the percent error we must first calculate the actual error which is how far away from the actual value the experimental value is:
1.44 g - 1.31 g = 0.13 g
To find the percentage error we must take this value, divide it by the actual mass that should have been produced and multiply it by 100%:
(0.13/1.44) * 100% = 9.02%
