The election of 1800 rolled around. Jefferson and Burr were both running for President and tied. It was up to Hamilton to decide who would be President. Hamilton chose Jefferson, even though they disagreed on almost everything. It was said he chose Jefferson because he wanted to keep Burr, the man who ruined Phillip Schuyler's political career, from winning. Of course, Burr was angry. He challenged Hamilton to a duel and shot Hamilton in the ribs. The year was 1804.

IN A NUTSHELL:

Burr shot Hamilton because he chose Jefferson instead of him for President.

Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton because Hamilton endorsed Thomas Jefferson, his enemy, a man he had despised since the beginning, just to keep Burr from winning ( the presidential election). The duel took place on July 11, 1804. Burr shot Hamilton in the abdomen.

I hope my answer was helpful! I'm a nerd and a Hamilton stan so I'll jump on any Hamilton questions I can get!
