Cellular respiration releases energy in the form of ATP in order to sustain life's processes. Aerobic respiration takes place in the presence of abundant oxygen. Anaerobic respiration, such asalcohol fermentation and lactic acid fermentation, takes place when oxygen levels are low. Which statement below is a valid conclusion based on the data shown, comparing the types ofcellular respiration?A.The abundance of oxygen does not affect the rate of production of ATP.B.Fermentation is the most efficient metabolic pathway for producing ATP.C.Oxygen is a limiting factor in the production of ATP.D.Aerobic respiration is ineffective in the production of ATP.

Cellular respiration

Cellular respiration is a process by which the cell obtains energy in the form of ATP.

The process of obtaining energy can occur with oxygen (aerobic respiration) or in the absence of oxygen (fermentation). However, fermentation generates less energy than aerobic respiration and is therefore used only in cases of energy "emergency".

Oxygen is a very important factor in ATP synthesis. Therefore, it is considered a limiting factor. So option "C" is the answer.
