Megan is 5 years older than Sandy. If four years ago Megan was three years less than three times Sandy's age, how old is Sandy now?

m = s + 5
m - 4 = (3s) - 3
(s + 5) - 4 = 3s - 3
s + 1 = 3s - 3
s = 3s - 4
-2s = -4
s = 2
m = 7
Check this:

m - 4 = 3s - 3
7 - 4 = 3(2) - 3
3 = 6 - 3
3 = 3

So Sandy is 2 and Megan is 7.
