\begin{gathered} (4^3)/(4^6)=(4\cdot4\cdot4)/(4\cdot4\cdot4\cdot4\cdot4\cdot4) \\ \text{hence, you can cancel 3 number four on top with 3 below, therefore} \\ (4^3)/(4^6)=(1)/(4\cdot4\cdot4)=(1)/(4^3)=4^(-3) \end{gathered}
