Answer:

In both pieces of these passages, Amy and Alfonso wanted to change their looks so that they could appealing to the people around them. Amy did not like her nose and wanted to have an American nose as she disliked her moms choice of food for the dinner they had and the fact that she looked like a Chinese. On the other hand, Alfonso wanted his teeth because they did not look as beautiful as he wanted them to. Their heart desires were to please people and gain confidence. Their behavior brings about the idea of belonging. They both wanted to belong, but basically in both stories they must learn to appreciate themselves and their culture, although Broken chain focuses more on learning to love and appreciate other people, while Fish Cheeks is about people appreciating their culture. Physical appearance is very important in both stories, both change their looks to that others will like them better.
