At the Olympics, the U.S. won 14 more gold than silver medals in Sydney, Australia in 2000. They won a total of 64 gold and silver medals. How many gold medals did the U.S. win?

39 gold medals because 39+25=64 and 39-25=14

64 total medals - 14 = 50
50 divided by 2= 25
so 25 silver medals

25 + 14 extra gold = 39 total gold medals

check work:
39 +25=64
