Answer: 16

Explanation:

Given: A jar contains
24 pennies. The pennies are taken out and divided into
2 piles. If the larger pile contains twice as many pennies as the smaller one.

To Find: how many pennies are in the larger pile.

Solution:

Total number of pennies in the jar
=24

let the number of pennies in bigger pile
=\text{x}

let the number of pennies in smaller pile
=\text{y}

Now,

\text{x}+\text{y}=24

as
\text{x}=2\text{y}

2\text{y}+\text{y}=24

3\text{y}=24

\text{y}=8

\text{x}=2\text{y}

\text{x}=2*8

\text{x}=16

Hence there are
16 pennies in larger pile.
