They built monasteries.

There, monks copies spiritual transcripts in different languages and stored them in monasteries. This made monasteries a place to learn but also a place to preserve knowledge.

Answer:

The Catholic church in the Middle Ages holds power over people by controlling authority and knowledge. The knowledge in the Middle Ages was preserved by copying the preserved ancient texts and by curating. Most of the tasks done by the monks in the monasteries in Europe. For no being no printing press at that period, coping manuscripts consumed a lot of time. Sometimes it took years to complete a book.
