President Reagan's support for the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), also known as "Star Wars," was the result of his unhappiness with which of the following U.S. national security policies?

Answer:

Mutual Assured Destruction

Step-by-step explanation:

President Ronal Reagan was unhappy with the Mutual Assured Destruction. Because of that, he announced the Strategic Defense Initiative. This SDI shifted US policy under nuclear weapons.

The MAD policy defended an uneasy peace during the Cold War because neither the US or the USSR attacked the other because they knew there should be nuclear retaliation.

Instead, the SDI used space-based lasers, particle beams, and other weapons staged in space.

The program was done in time in his presidency. The SDI is intentionally for space-based state defense. Despite this plan, his real dream was to stop the use of nuclear weapons.

He gave up SDI in an agreement with Mikhail Gorbachev, Soviet President that they will stop the use of nuclear weapons. However, they don't have guarantee that no country will use it.
