Quick help!

This is the hook/first sentence of my essay:
"_______ , the LGBT community is discriminated against enough that people find the need to punish or harm the populace."
I need to fill the blank with a transition phrase. Something like "Even today." Unfortunately, I can't use "Even today," as it is obvious that discrimination is still going on.

You could use inevitably or any other word along the same lines as that.

Try using "Still," or "Unfortunately."
That sounds about right to me.
