This line goes through the point (0, -2) and (2, 4) Caution here, because the vertical axis goes up by twos and is a different scale than the x-axis. The slope formula is y-y on top of a fraction and x-x on the bottom of the fraction. So

(4- -2)/(2-0) is

6/2 which, simplified is 3/1 or just 3.

You can pick this off the graph directly without the calculations. Start at (0, -2) and you have to go up 6 units and over 2 units to get to the next point at (2,4) .That "up 6 and over 2". Is the 6/2 that we calculated (obviously simplifies the same way)

Slope is 3

Take two points

  • (0,-2)
  • (2,4)

Gradient means slope:-
