The first alternative is correct (A).

Written in Latin, carpe diem means, in a free translation, "enjoy the day". This expression was first used by the Roman poet Horace in the first century to advise his friend, Leucose, to make the most of the day, not only in the literal sense of the word, but to enjoy life.
