Read the passage from Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Tom sulked in a corner…. He knew that in her heart his aunt was on her knees to him, and he was morosely gratified by the (awareness) of it. He would hang out no signals, he would take notice of none. He knew that a yearning glance fell upon him, now and then, through a film of tears, but he refused recognition of it. To beesech is to ask for something urgently and repeatedly. In this excerpt, Huck is mad at his aunt. He can tell that she wants to apologize to him, but cannot not bring herself to do so. Huck believes that his aunt will eventually run to him, in his deathbed, and implore him to forgive her. However, he takes pleasure on the idea of her being so desperate and Huck never, ever forgiving her.
