Before industrialization, the number of dark peppered moth was very less as compared to the light peppered moth.

It is because light peppered moth was able to blend with light-colored lichens and light colored tree bark. It gave them the survival advantage due to which they could reproduce and survive more.

After industrialization, due to deposition of soot and pollution, the bark of the trees became dark and industrialization melanism took place in peppered moth.

It resulted in an increase in the number of dark peppered moths.
