Answer:

The correct answer is: B. They serve architecture, but look like huge sculptures.

Step-by-step explanation:

All three Museums have exquisite architectural design which created some controversy at the time, in some cases due to the difficulties of a proper design taking into account the space and the proposes for the building, such is the case of the East Building of the National Gallery of Art. The other two museums, both belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, created controversy because of their uncommonly

They are all out-of-the-ordinary buildings, well representing their artistic propose, as they are an art piece themselves. All three buildings were created to hold 20th century, contemporary and more modern art pieces.

The East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. was design by architect I.M. Pei, to hold the museum's public functions and contemporary modern art such as: Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, Pollock, Lichetenstein, Calder and Motherwell among other great artists. It also holds the museum's study center of the museum. I.M. Pei faced several challenges as the building had to fit a trapezoidal shape site, combine and live with the already existing West building. He designed a geometrical building evoking triangles to fit the trapezoidal land shape. The inside contains aerial walkways that provide circulation on the top floors and the light flows clearly through the stunning skylights that follow the triangle shape aesthetics of the building. The main feature is the high atrium with 16,000 square feet of space.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is located in Manhattan, New York city and it holds impressionists, post impressionists, contemporary and modern art. The cylindrical building was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright as a "temple of the spirit", like he called it. The inside design was as revolutionary as the outside. It is a ramp that extends and ascends from the ground in a continuous spiral form following the cylindrical shape of the building to end under the ceiling skylight. This design ended with the conventional museum's layout and it was hardly critiqued at the time not only by architects but by artists as well, prior to its opening. In fact a group of artists presented a letter protesting. Once the museum was opened it was highly admired and served as an iconic inspiration.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is located in Bilbao, Spain and belongs to the Salomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. Design by Frank Gehry is home of modern and contemporary artwork. It is one of the most praised contemporary architecture works, it is innovating. Built with titanium curves emerging from the ground to catch and reflect the light. It is placed near the Nervion River and it reminisces some sort of big ship or gigantic fish. It connects perfectly with the urban context.
