in order to simplify divide the numerator and denominator by the greatest Common Factor or both numbers... in this case the numbers are 6 and 8

6: 1,2,3,6

8:1,2,4,8,

as you can see the GCF is 2... so you divide 6 by 2 nd 8 by 2

6/2= 3

8/2=4

since 6 in ur numerator the quotient is 3 so the number 3 goes on the top
