Janet wants to make some new clothes. she purchases three pieces of fabric to make a dress, a jacket and a pair of pants. the first piece is 3 5/7 yd long. Another piece is 4 2/7 yd long. and the last piece is 2yd long. find the total number of yards of fabric that janet purchases

Actually this is easier than you think:
3 5/7 yd + 4 2/7 yd + 2yd =
Add the whole numbers
3 + 4 + 2 = 9
Adding the fractions 5/7 + 2/7 = 1 yard
So the total yards is 10
