A few years​ ago, a total of 2669 thousand people lived in the metropolitan areas of Las​ Vegas, Nevada, and​ Sacramento, California. Sacramento had 275 thousand more residents than Las Vegas. What was the population of each metropolitan​ area?

Let's make equation for this problem. Let's say the population of LV is x, then Sacramento will be x+275 since Sacramento had 275 thousand more residents than Las Vegas. Remember that their total population is 2669, so your equation will be
x+275 +x=2669

If you solve this equation, you have x=1197, that is population of LV. So Sacramento is 1472.
