The correct answer is - D. volcanic island arc.

When a continental and oceanic tectonic plates collide, they create a convergent boundary, and there is a subduction zone, where the heavier oceanic plate goes beneath the lighter continental plate.

Because there's cracks between the two plates, the high pressure, temperature, and magma from the mantle, manage to penetrate the crust and get to the surface, when they start to form volcanoes.

The volcanoes usually come in the shape of a chain of volcanic islands, on open sea, but relatively close to the land, as it is the case with the Japanese Islands or the Indonesian Islands.
