Marcus plots the point (4, 7) in Quadrant I on the coordinate plane. Nicole then plots the point (4, –3) in Quadrant IV of the same graph. Explain what the line that goes through those two points would look like, and evaluate the slope.

Answer:

The points have the same x-coordinates.

The line would be vertical.

The line has no slope.

The run = 0, which would create an undefined fraction.

The line that goes through those points would just be a plain vertical line because they have the same x-value! Therefore, the equation would just be x=6. And the slope of a vertical line is always undefined since there is no variation in the x-values.
If you tried to use the slope formula: m= y2-y1/x2-x1 , you would get 7-(-3)/4-4
since 4-4=0, the denominator will be 0 and any number divided by 0 is undefined!
