Solve the equation -25+4y=35

to solve this we need to solve for y (try to leave y by itself)

-25+4y=35 to do this first you need to add (the opposite of subtraction) 25 on both sides (remember that the equation has to always be balanced) leaving you with 4y=60

after this the only function that attaches the 4 to the y is multiplication, so we do the opposite (division)

4y/4=60/4

y=15

now y is all by itself, meaning that we solved for y

*Subtract 35*
-25+4y-35=0
*add 25 (to cancel out)*
4y-35=25
*add 35 (to cancel out)*
4y=60
*Divide by 4 to get y on its own*
y=15
