Regarding the question is important to define a research paper.

A research paper is a piece of academic writing based on it's author's original research on a particular topic and the analysis and interpretation of the research findings.

According the visual format to use in this case, I would propose a visual elements as pictures and tables. But in this particular context I will use a color graphic that shows the tendency of temperature variable.
