Read the excerpt. Beneath the soiled linen duster, which on her arrival was the most conspicuous feature of her costume, she wore a black stuff dress whose ornamentation showed that she had surrendered herself unquestioningly into the hands of a country dressmaker. My poor aunt’s figure, however, would have presented astonishing difficulties to any dressmaker. What valid conclusion about a story character can you draw from the excerpt from “A Wagner Matinée” by Willa Cather?

The narrator's aunt is inappropriately dressed. Is my guess.

Answer: The narrator’s aunt is inappropriately dressed.

In this excerpt, the narrator describes the look of her aunt. She states that the first thing she noticed (because it was so conspicuous) was that she was wearing a dirty linen duster. However, beneath this, she was wearing a black dress with ornamentation that seemed to have been done will little taste. Moreover, the author states that the aunt had a complicated figure, so that most things did not look good on her. We can conclude that the aunt was dressed inappropriately.
