The seventh-grade class is building target areas for a PE activity. The bases for the game will be circular in shape. The diameter of each circle is 5 feet. Approximately how many square feet of the turf need to be painted for a base circle? Use 3.14 for π and round your answer to the nearest tenth.

What does this mean can someone please help me it would be greatly appreciated!

Fear not, for Gandalf is here! What you need to do is find the area of the circle. The formula is A = πr2 (pi times squared r). So, in other words, you cut the diameter in half (5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 feet) and do this: 2.5 × 2.5 (this is the squared 2.5). Next, you multiply the factor (which is 6.25) by 3.14. So, you get 19.623, also known as 19.6 if you're rounding to the nearest tenth. Ciao!

A=(3.14)* (2.5)^2


A=(3.14)* 6.25


A=19.625


A\approx 19.6

Therefore the area of a base circle is 19.6 square feet.
