It doesn't matter how many dogs there are.
5 toys are red
there are 10 toys 5/10 = 50%

10 toys. 5 are red, 5 are another color.
One already has a red toy, so there are 4 red toys left.
You know that 1 is already red, so you can take that out of the total number of toys, so there are 9 toys remaining and 4 of them are red, 4/9 or .44
