One animal dies in a desert area. With the help of scavengers and bacteria it decomposes completely in the hot sun. A second animal dies while drinking in a stream. The body is covered in sediment before it decomposes. Which is more likely to leave a fossil?

The second animal is more likely to become fossilized because the sediment preserves the animals carcass and slows the decomposition process
