Hi there!
x - 3y = 9
x = 9 + 3y
-4x + y = 8
-4(9+3y) + y = 8
-36 - 12y + y = 8
-36 - 11y = 8
-11y = 44
-y = 4
y = -4
x - 3y = 9
x - 3(-4) = 9
x + 12 = 9
x = 21
So, your answers are y = -4 and x = 21.
Hope this helps!
