Read this paragraph.

Sophie believed that she deserved a raise. She had been earning the same wage for two years, and her work responsibilities had greatly increased. She was often asked to train new waitstaff, and she knew her employer valued her expertise. When her employer arrived at work, Sophie started the conversation.

Which stage directions best represent the ideas in the paragraph?

Sophie: [Addressing her boss with confidence] I would like to discuss my pay.
Sophie: [Speaking to new waitstaff] We need to discuss paychecks.
Sophie: [Reminiscing cheerfully] I have met some nice people working here.
Sophie: [Pounding the table] I deserve some thanks for all the work I do.

The first answer. It’s respectful and shows dignity.

The stage directions that best represent the ideas in the paragraph are the ones in the first sentence: (Addressing her boss with confidence) I would like to discuss my pay. I believe that this is the correct answer because the language used is formal and because it is polite. This indicates that she respects her boss. What is more, the stage directions state that she should talk to him/her showing confidence because of all the reasons mentioned (she waited for two years to finally ask, her work responsibilities increased). Sentence 2 and 4 are disrespectful and definitely not polite (she gives an order and she pounds the table). Finally, sentence 3 does not mention the raise. That is why I think the first option is the correct choice.
