In this aphorism Almanack is saying that having an enemy that speak to you honestly “may prove a curse”, because it will discuss your weaknesses without shame, however having a “pretended friend”, a friend that is not honest to you, a fake friend would certainly be worse, Almanack refer to sincerity as one of Franklin’s virtues. The answer is A.
