The birth of an Athenian male will differ from the birth of the Spartan male in that a Spartan father takes the baby straight to the meeting hall where a group of elders will take part in inspecting the baby. They will take them and test their health as well as their strength and from there they can decide if the baby is healthy. If the baby is healthy, the father is then given the orders to raise the baby and is give a plot of land. For the Athenian baby boy born the family announced the birth of the baby by pinning olive leaves to the front door
