Read the quote by the Baron de Montesquieu from The Spirit of the Laws. When the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person, or in the same body of magistrates, there can be no liberty; because apprehensions may arise, lest the same monarch or senate should enact tyrannical laws, to execute them in a tyrannical manner. This quote specifically declares the need for a government

The correct answer is: "division of powers".

The principle of division of powers, developed by Baron de Montesquieu during the Enlightenment Era, states that the power in a nation needs to be divided in three independent branches: legislative, executive and judiciary. For example, in the US Federal goverment these are, respectively, the US Congress, the US Goverment and the US Supreme Court.

Moreover, a system of Checks and Balances needs to implemented, so that each of the branches supervises the other two, so that none of them gathers enough power as to overrule the other two. It is the way of avoiding a tyrannical state or authoritarian practices.

Answer:

A) With more than one branch of power is the correct answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

He suggested the separation of power mode of the state. In this model the government is divided into branches and each one them have independent powers and responsibility. It prevents the power of one branch from coming in conflict with other and hence they would not be able to interfere with other branches. According to his concept the government should be divided into an executive, judiciary and legislature, the three branches would be able to check and balance others and prevent autocracy.
