During the process of cell division, both plant and animal cells go through a step called metaphase.
In this step of metaphase, the chromosomes in both the types of cells align at the center of a cell and from what is known as the
metaphase
plate
.
This metaphase plate is formed due to the tension created by the spindle fibers to which the chromosomes are attached from the opposite poles.
After this metaphase, the next step is telophase when the chromatids separate and move to separate poles and finally the cell divides.
However, for cell division to take place, a
cell
plate
is formed in
plant
cells whereas a
cleavage
furrow
is formed in
animal
cells.
Thus,
the step of metaphase is the common phase in both the cells.
