  • During the process of cell division, both plant and animal cells go through a step called metaphase.
  • In this step of metaphase, the chromosomes in both the types of cells align at the center of a cell and from what is known as the metaphase plate.
  • This metaphase plate is formed due to the tension created by the spindle fibers to which the chromosomes are attached from the opposite poles.
  • After this metaphase, the next step is telophase when the chromatids separate and move to separate poles and finally the cell divides.
  • However, for cell division to take place, a cell plate is formed in plant cells whereas a cleavage furrow is formed in animal cells.
  • Thus, the step of metaphase is the common phase in both the cells.
