84 square inches divided by 14 inches equals 6

84 divided by 14 = s

Alright, lets get started.

Two sides of the rectange are 14 and s.

So, the area of the rectange would be =
length * width

So, the area of the rectange would be =
14 s

A triangle is cut from the rectangle.

The height of the triangle is =
(s)/(2)

The base of the triangle is = 14

So area of the triangle would be =
(1)/(2) *base * height

area of the triangle would be =
(1)/(2) * 14*(s)/(2)

area of the triangle would be =
(7s)/(2)

So, the area of shaded region = area of rectange - area of triangle

the area of shaded region =
14 s -(7s)/(2)

As per given in question, area of shaded region is 84, hence

14 s -(7s)/(2) = 84..........equation

So, this is the equation for s : Answer

Hope it will help :)
