The appropriate response is 1 and 2. Grant's hard-won triumph at Vicksburg, Mississippi, in May of 1863 was a key showstopper. Combined with the Northern triumph at Gettysburg, the catch of Vicksburg denoted the defining moment in the war. It additionally made Grant the head administrator in the Federal armed force.
