In January, the amount of snowfall was 5 1/2 feet. In October, the amount of snowfall was 3/8 feet. What was the amount of snowfall in the two months combined?

Hey there!

Since you want to find out the amount of snowfall combined, add 5 1/2 and 3/8 . . .

1/2 = 4/8

3/8 = 3/8

4 + 3 = 7

( The denominator is the same so 1/2 + 3/8 = 7/8)

5 + 7/8= 5 7/8

5 1/2 + 3/8 = 5 7/8 <-----------

The amount of snowfall combined is 5 7/8 ft.

Hope this helps you.
Have a great day!

combined is 5 7/8

since 1/2 is equal to 4/8 and then 5 4/8+3/8=5 7/8
