The virus life cycle consists of 6 stages:

1. Attachment: The protein on the virus capsid attaches itself to the receptors on the ell surface of the host.

2. Penetration: The viruses capsid goes through a conformational change, fusing the virus to the host's cell surface.

3. Uncoating: The virus nucleic DNA is released when the enzymes of the virus or host degrade the capsid of the virus.

4. Replication: Once released the virus DNA undergoes transcription or translation. The replication will be different due to the type of virus invading the host, example DNA virus, RNA virus or viruses with opposite nucleic acid polarity.

5. Assembly: Maturation process occurs, where by the replicated DNA and the virus protein are packed into virions in order to be released from the host.

6. Virion release: The virions can be released either through lysis or budding.
