A growing number of parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children. While there are legitimate reasons not to vaccinate, including certain medical conditions that compromise immune systems, many parents are objecting to vaccination shots for philosophical reasons. The real culprit undermining the public’s safety is a baseless claim that vaccinations lead to autism. Which word is emotional and intended to persuade the reader that not vaccinating children is evil? A) culprit B) baseless C) legitimate D) compromise

I would say A) culprit as the answer. Culprit connotates a crime, someone responsible for a crime. That word struck me when I read this.

Hope this helps! :)

The word that is emotional and intended to persuade the reader that not vaccinating children is evil is:

A. culprit

Culprit, according to the context, means the cause of a problem or misdeed. Therefore, the writer is saying that the reason or cause for the problem, which is undermining the public's safety, is an unproven claim that vaccinations cause autism.

Culprit: a person responsible for a crime, or the cause of a problem

Compromise: sacrificing something in order to obtain something back

Baseless: without foundation

Legitimate: authentic, true, valid
