The French Revolution had an enormous impact on the rest of Europe. However, the most important aspect of this was the ideological dimension. The French Revolution was particularly significant due to the fact that it put into practice many of the ideas of the Enlightenment, such as those of equality, freedom, the social contract and civil and political rights. All of these ideas spread throughout Europe, leading many leaders to worry about revolutions among their own people. Therefore, many countries throughout the continent enacted changes that liberalized the monarchies of the time.
