Jim has 20-inch wheels on his bicycle (their diameter is 20 inches). The tires are worn out, and he would like to cut them into pieces to use as a bumper on something he's making. Estimate the length of rubber Jim would get from his two bicycle tires. ≈ 60 in. ≈ 40 in. ≈ 120 in. ≈ 136 in.

Explanation:

Given : Jim has 20-inch wheels on his bicycle (their diameter is 20 inches).

Then, the radius of the tire =
(20)/(2)=10\ in.

Now, the length of rubber we got from each tire is given by Circumference.

Circumference of a circle is given by :-


C=2\pi r=2(3.14)(10)=62.8\text{ in.}

i.e. the length of rubber we got from each tire is 62.8 inches.

Now , the length of rubber Jim would get from his two bicycle tires :-


2*64.8=125.6\approx120\text{ in.}

Hence, the estimated length of rubber Jim would get from his two bicycle tires. = 120 in.
