The Battle of San Jacinto. Sam Houston's small group of men ambushed Santa Anna's group of Mexican soldiers, while they were taking a siesta. They had not been worried about the small number of Texans and, therefore, felt no immediate threat. When Houston's men attacked, all of the Mexican soldiers died or were taken captive. The biggest capture was that of Santa Anna. He surrendered and Texas was granted its independence by President Andrew Jackson.
