Granville Woods improved the telegraph in many ways.

He allowed them to transmit speech, added them onto trains, and made it easier to operate and carry them around.

Granville Woods (1856 – 1910) was an American inventor who managed to introduce several improvements in the telegraph communication system.

He designed the denominated Multiplex Telegraph. It enabled the transmission of messages from train stations and also between moving trains. It allowed to offer safer and better public transportation networks in the US.
