1. In 2005 the guidelines were based on expert opinion where as the 2010 guidelines were based on empirical research and evidence.

2. My plate was a new tool used in 2010 instead of my pyramid in 2005. (My Plate: is a simple picture of a plate with the recommended amounts of different foods that should be on your plate. My Pyramid: is a structure of a pyramid in which it details what you should eat and in what quantity.)

3. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines provide new guidance on reducing daily sodium (salt) intake.
