Now let’s see if you can apply what you have learned about combining sentences. Read the two sentences. During the Renaissance, new continents were discovered. The Renaissance was an era immediately following the Middle Ages. Which is the best combination of these two sentences?

Immediately following the Middle Ages, the Renaissance brought the discovery of new continents. Hope this helped.

I believe you need to use subordinate clauses in order to combine these two sentences. Here is my solution:
During the Renaissance, (which was) an era immediately following the Middle Ages, new continents were discovered.
This way, you are using all words mentioned in both sentences, and combining them into one complete sentence.
