Osmosis is the movement of the solvent (water) through a semi-permeable membrane, while diffusion is movement of both the solvent and solute freely passing through the membrane.

Diffusion is a process in which a molecule moves across a membrane to balance concentration of that molecule without using energy. Osmosis is a process where water moves across a membrane to balance the concentration of a different molecule that can’t move across the membrane itself.
