Carlos works at an art gallery and sells paintings. He earns a 15% commission when his total sales are $5,000 or less. If he makes sales that total over $5,000 in one week, he gets a 20% commission. Carlos also earns $10 per hour that he works. Last week, Carlos earned a total of $1,900 after working 40 hours. What was the total value of the paintings that Carlos sold last week?

Answer:

$ 7500 total value of the paintings

Explanation:

$1,900 after working 40 hours = £10 * 40 = 400 where 1900-400 = $1500 commission of 20% so as 20% is 1/5 of 1 whole = we multiply by 5 = 1500* 5 = 7500 = $ 7500 Note we know it wasnt 15% as we are able to 'Find a value of 15% of 5000 when 5000* 0.15 = 750 and as our alue is double that we know its is higher than 5000 total sales so therefore 20% is applied as either frational way forward or another way we 1500/ 20 * 100 = 1500 = $1500 commission paid
