A parachutist's speed during a free fall reaches 162 kilometers per hour. What is this speed in meters per second? At this speed, how many meters will the parachutist fall during 20 seconds of free fall? Do not round your answers.

162 km : 60 min
60 divided by 60 = 1
162 divided by 60 = 2.7
2.7 km a second
2.7 km = 2,700 m
2,700 m/second
2,700 m times 20 = 54,000 m in 20 seconds.

Answer: a) 45m/s

b) 900 meters

Explanation:

The speed is 162 km/h

first, we want to change the units from km/h to m/s

for this we know that 1km = 1000m and 1h = 3600s

now we replace those numbers in our speed and get:

162 km/h = 162*(1000m)/(3600s) = 45 m/s

now, the distance that the parachutist falls for 20 seconds:

we know that in one second, the parachutist moves a distance of 45 meters, so in 20 seconds, the parachutist will move 20 times that distance, this means that we have:

d = 20s*45m/s = 900m
