Columbus was like an entrepreneur in many ways. Let's look at what an entrepreneur is first.
A person who organizes or operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.
Columbus didn't take on financial risks like we currently, do, but he did trade. That takes a special dealing and set os skills that not everyone had. He also led a "business." Also not like what we have today, but he led fleets of ships and conquered and explored new land.
