Is 1 + 4(3x - 10) - 12x equivalent to -9? EXPLAIN and show your work.

Explanation:

1 + 4(3x - 10) - 12x = 9

simplifies to

1+12x - 40 -12x =9

combine like terms to get

-39 = 9
